Welcome to Year 5!
We work closely with Mrs Saunders. In our classroom, we are enthusiastic, curious and always ready to challenge ourselves. We enjoy learning in a variety of ways, using a wide range of resources to support both our practical and written work.
In Year 5, we take pride in building on our skills and deepening our understanding across all subjects. We love discovering new ideas, asking thoughtful questions and striving to achieve our very best in everything we do.
We follow the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum and, alongside our class topic, we study a broad and exciting range of subjects including Science, Art, Computing, Geography, History, Music, PE, Design Technology, RE, French and PSHE.
We are proud of our positive attitude to learning and look forward to a fantastic year of growth, achievement and success!
PE Days
PE takes place on Monday and Friday. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is kept in school for the entire half term so they are always prepared for lessons.
Homework
Reading
Please listen to your child read every day, as this makes a significant difference to their progress. Reading diaries are checked weekly, so please ensure they are kept up to date.
Children are encouraged to write the name of the book they have read at home and add a short comment about their reading — both are fantastic to see! Children are responsible for changing their own reading books in school.
Spellings
Spellings are sent home every Monday and tested the following Monday. Your child’s new spelling rule will be recorded in their home reading record each week.
When practising spellings, it is important that children can apply them correctly in their writing, not just for the weekly test. Please continue to revisit previous spellings to help keep them fresh, as we will review earlier spelling patterns at the end of each half term.
Maths (set on Purple Mash)

Children will be set a weekly maths task on Purple Mash. This will usually consolidate that week’s learning or focus on times tables practice.
